The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abidjan provides services to nearly 900 American Citizens living in Cote d'Ivoire, as well as to several hundred tourists and business visitors each year.  Services include routine functions as well as emergency assistance.  The Embassy Duty Officer assists American Citizens outside of normal business hours.  The Duty Officer can provide information on medical facilities, on obtaining emergency funds from home, on dealing with and replacing lost/stolen items, on reporting crimes, etc.  Please be aware that most services, such as applying for a  passport to replace one which has been lost or stolen, can only be performed during normal working hours.  Routine services to Americans such as passport renewals, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, notarials and registration of Americans in Côte d'Ivoire are available at the Embassy during business hours.

All American citizens are reminded that 2008 is a presidential election year in the United States.  Overseas citizens are eligible to participate in primary, run-off, and special elections that occur throughout the year, as well as the general elections in November. As you know, primaries are already underway!

We strongly encourage you to register to vote and/or request absentee ballots as soon as possible to ensure that you will receive all ballots for which you are eligible.

The official US Government website for overseas absentee voting assistance is the Federal Voting Assistance Program website at www.fvap.gov
